Welcome to The Joyce Marshall Academy
of Performing Arts!

"A high quality product, delivered consistently, and at a competitive price!" LEA Advisor

The Joyce Marshall Academy operates in South Wales and assists young people with extra-curricular tuition in the performing arts field, whether as a potential career, as a hobby or just for fun!  Our ethos is inclusivity and our special emphasis is on a unique combination of performance and education opportunities.

We believe that the performing arts should be available to everyone and work hard to ensure this is the case.  Consequently, we offer scholarships and bursaries every year and try to introduce our pupils to all genres of performance so that every child can find something they love.  Find out more about us...

Latest Academy News

LAMDA Drama/ABRSM Singing Examinations

The Academy  recently entered a number of its students for Performance examinations.  The examinations are accredited by QCA and DAQW, and contribute to UCAS points for University and college applications, whilst teaching vital and transferrable life skills.  The results are now in.  Of the 43 students that entered drama exams, 5 scored pass marks, 24 scored merits and 14 scored distinctions.  Of the 6 students that entered, 4 scored merits and 2 scored distinctions. Well done all!  A special well done to Mia Goddard, who scored a fantastic Distinction in her Grade 8 Singing examination.

We can now, however, cater for external students who wish to pursue drama tuition to improve communication skills (elocution, interview technique, presentation) or wish to improve their confidence.  Tuition is fun, friendly and informal, and open to anyone aged 5-105!  For more information please contact us...

Sparkle and Shine!

The Academy's Llanover students were involved in the world premiere of Sparkle and Shine!, an innovative new musical written specifically for and in aid of S. Wales charity The Sparkle Appeal.  Our students were given creative freedom to design the show’s artistic concept, devising their own stars and constellations, and exploring how to portray the above themes through the use of costume and set.  The show took place at Llanover's Sir John Herbert Memorial Hall, Abergavenny, on Sunday 10th April 2010, 11am, and raised  a fantastic £160 for The Sparkle Appeal.

Phase two of the project was to offer local youngsters the opportunity to be a popstar for the day, and to participate in the recording of the original soundtrack of the Sparkle and Shine! musical.  The recording took place on Wednesday 1st June 2011, 9am-3pm, at The Salvation Army Centre in Abergavenny, and every participant will receive a goody bag from the recording sponsors Frankie and Benny's.  For more information please contact us...

Want to be a Star?

The Academy is putting together a mailing list of all young people aged 3-18 with a passion for the performing arts.  Through the work of our TARGET (Theatre Arts: Get Involved) initiative, we are liasing with local and national casting directors, to promote unique and exciting opportunities.  Recently, TARGET's promotion of the CBBC's casting for Robostar, a new tv series for 10-12 year olds, resulted in a number of applications.  If you'd like to be added to our mailing list, simply email enquiries@target-arts.org with details on the area of performing arts you are interested in, your age and any relevant experience.  There is no charge for this service, and we may be able to reccommend local services that could assist.  Contact us to register your interest.
